PRP & GFR

What is PRP treatment?

PRP injections trigger natural hair growth and maintain it by increasing blood supply to the hair follicle and increasing the thickness of the hair shaft. Sometimes this approach is combined with other hair loss procedures or medications. Plasma is a component of your blood that contains special “factors,” or proteins, that help your blood to clot. It also contains proteins that support cell growth.

What is Growth factor receptor?

A growth factor receptor is a receptor which binds to growth factors. It is a highly concentrated growth factor preparation, prepared from your own blood for superior results in hair loss.

PRP process

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy for hair loss is a three-step medical treatment

Step 1

A blood sample is drawn from a vein in your arm.

Step 2

The drawn blood is then put into a centrifuge (a machine that spins rapidly to separate fluids of different densities).

Step 3

After about 10 minutes in the centrifuge, the blood will be separated into in three layers:

  • Platelet-poor plasma
  • Platelet-rich plasma
  • Red blood cells
Step 4

The platelet-rich plasma is drawn up into a syringe and then injected into areas of the scalp that need increased hair growth.

How is GFR done?

Step 1

A blood sample is drawn from a vein in your arm into a GFR tube. The tube is loaded with growth factors.

Step 2

The tubes are rested for 30 minutes after which the blood is centrifuged. The platelets from the blood are activated and the growth factors are released.

Step 3

Platelets loaded with Growth factor Receptors are separated from the blood and collected.

Step 4

The Growth factor receptors are then injected into the scalp.

Benefits of PRP treatment:

  • Increases blood supply to the follicles.
  • Increases shaft size.
  • Triggers and maintains growth phase.
  • Controls hair growth cycle.
  • Decreases hair loss.

Who is a good candidate for PRP treatment?

  • Balding men.
  • Hair loss or thinning hair in women.
  • People who began losing hair due to illness like fever
  • Women with post delivery hair fall.

Side effects:

Since PRP is extracted from your own blood, there are no side effects/reactions due to this treatment. However PRP can cause:

  • Mild pain at the injection site
  • Scalp tenderness
  • Mild headache for about an hour after procedure.

Downtime:

There is no downtime associated with PRP treatment. You can resume your activities immediately after the procedure.

Other benefits of PRP:

  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Scar treatment (as an adjuvant with other treatments)

Benefits of Growth factor receptors:

  1. Improves hair thickness.
  2. Stimulates hair re-growth.
  3. Reduces hair fall.
  4. Strengthens hair shafts.
  5. Highly safe.
  6. Rejuvenates hair follicles.
  7. Various Growth factor receptors:

Various growth factors present in Growth factor concentrate play different roles in treating hair loss:

    • Epidermal growth factor:

Epidermal growth factor (EGF) is a protein that stimulates cell growth and differentiation by binding to its receptor. Thus, activates hair growth and stimulates new blood vessels around the hair root.

    • Vascular endothelial growth factor:

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an essential growth factor for formation of new blood vessels. Thus, it helps in stimulating the production of blood vessels around the hair roots. Thereby increases the blood supply to the roots where the nutrient value is also increased.

    • Platelet-derived growth factor:

Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is one among numerous growth factors that regulate cell growth and division. In particular, PDGF plays a significant role in blood vessel formation. Thus, it helps in activating hair growth and stimulates mesenchymal stem cells.

    • Insulin-like growth factor-1:

Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), is a mediator of growth hormone. Thus, helps in increasing hair follicle growth.

How is GFR different from PRP?

    • It is a painless procedure whereas PRP is slightly painful.
    • GFR treatment is much more powerful and potent as compared to PRP.
    • Less number of sessions as compared to PRP.
    • Better and enhanced results in GFR.
