Skincare Resolution For 2020 - DNA Skin Clinic
skincare resolution

It’s just that time of the year when everyone looks out to improve themselves, their habits, career, health, etc with a resolution. Just like you have resolutions for other things, you should also consider having a skincare resolution to let your skin beam with radiance throughout the year.  And since the internet is full of ideas, you might get confused as to what guidelines to follow to get that perfect skin. To ease your life, we bring to you a comprehensive list of things that should be considered as a part of the resolution 2020 to have a healthy and glowing skin.

Get into a good skincare routine: The first and the most important thing to have for healthy skin is a good skincare routine. Cleansing, toning, and moisturizing should be done daily. Clean your skin every morning and night with a cleanser/face wash that suits your skin type. Pick a moisturizer that is mild and free from any harsh chemical that can damage the skin. Apart from this exfoliate your skin using a gentle scrub regularly and use homemade face packs fortnightly.

Sun Shield: It’s high time you start taking sun protection seriously given the damage it causes to your skin. No matter what time of the year it is, shielding your skin from the sun should never go out of the skincare list. Apply sunscreen before you move out in the sun and reapply it every two hours to guard your skin from damaging effects of the sun. To keep your skin free from harmful sun rays and its effects like pigmentation, dark spots, discoloration, etc, try to avoid going out in the sun during peak hours. Limit sun exposure and do not step out without applying a sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30.

Remove Make-up Every Night: You could have a busy tiring day at work or a party after which you are totally exhausted, whatever it is, pledge not to sleep with your make-up on. Make it a habit to remove all the makeup from your skin using either micellar water or a gentle make-up remover and then use a cleanser to clear off the residue, dirt, etc. Leaving the make-up on might lead to problems like acne, pimples, and clogged pores. After washing off the face apply a nourishing moisturizer to keep the skin soft and supple.

Mind the Shelf life of the Products: While you were collecting all those latest beauty and skincare products to add to the existing collection, you might have forgotten to check the expiry date of the older ones. Usually, most of the make-up items have an average shelf life of three years but for you, it will depend on the time when you bought it. You may have picked a product after 2 years of manufacturing so effectively the one that you own will have only a year left for its expiry. Make it a habit to regularly check the expiry date and discard all the items that have lapsed.

Clean Skincare Tools Regularly: Even when you use the make-up tools and brushes only for yourself, resolve to clean them regularly. While you have been using them on your skin for a while now, the brushes/tools have accumulated oil, particles and dead skin cells which can be harmful. If not cleaned properly, it can let bacteria thrive on it, also the dust and other particles can clog the pores and cause breakouts.

Exercise/Workout Routine: To let the skin glow from inside out, it is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Especially in today’s sedentary life, a simple exercise or workout regime is a must for overall health and healthy skin. The workout doesn’t necessarily have to be strenuous or done at the gym, simple daily exercises like yoga, brisk walking, etc can also work wonders. You need to get your body moving to have proper blood circulation which will reflect through a skin that shines naturally.

Get Enough Sleep: Make every possible effort to take out at least 6-8 hrs sleep time from your busy schedule. Lack of sleep stimulates the production of stress hormones called cortisol which affects your entire body including the skin. Proper sleep ensures better blood flow to the skin cells and helps it get heal while the body rests and relaxes. Also, fresh collagens are produced during sleep which helps in keeping the skin firm and glowing.

Go Green: While the world is looking out for sustainable options for living, it is time that you switch to natural and organic ingredients and ditches the harmful chemicals in skincare products. Synthetic chemicals like sulfates, parabens, artificial fragrances, etc do more harm than proposed good to your skin. While they may improve the outward appearance temporarily, such chemicals can trigger allergies and cause cell destruction from within. Also, try and adopt natural remedies for skin related problems as much as you can.

Mind What You Eat: To have a skin that radiates naturally you must mind what you eat. Mindful eating is as important as any skincare product that you purchase to look gorgeous. Remember whatever you feed your body with, also feeds your skin. Avoid crash diet and switch over to a healthy nutritious food habit. Include fruits, green vegetables, healthy salads, and food rich in protein, omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants, etc in the diet. The nutrient-rich food will help in fighting free radicals and repair the skin. Stay hydrated throughout the day and have plenty of water to flush out toxins for clear skin.

While you make these a part of your skincare resolution this year, it is recommended to consult a dermatologist for any skin related issues. It will help in the identification and treatment of the problem before the condition worsens.
